My top recommendation is the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster. It’s not a cheap appliance but it’s an innovative one.
We flip it up to activate toaster mode, being able to use it as a long slot toaster that fits thick-cut slices of bread. We flip it down to unlock the oven mode for pizza bagels, sandwiches, frozen waffles, etc.
Next, we have the Breville BOV900BSS Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. It is a toaster, an oven, an air fryer, a dehydrator, a proofing box for dough, a slow cooker, a yogurt maker, etc. It’s also extremely expensive.
Last but not least, I decided to recommend a classic countertop convection toaster oven. And that’s the Hamilton Beach 6-Slice Countertop Toaster Oven. It’s affordable, incredibly easy to use, and small enough to fit in a small kitchen and with a baking chamber big enough for a small family even.

Let’s find out what makes the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster so amazing and why I decided to make it my top pick for the best horizontal toaster.
There are a lot of things to like about it. Including how it can be used both vertically and horizontally for different cooking functions. The Flip in the name is there because it actually flips and it works in both modes.
It’s an ingenious appliance and a highly versatile one. There’s no wonder that a Ninja product will end up being my top recommendation. After all, I love their blenders and air fryers a lot, too. It’s a great manufacturer and it was also my top pick when I talked about the best air fryer grill combo.
However, this time, if there is one thing I totally don’t like about this wonderful Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster is the price. This one is certainly not cheap.
There are cheaper toaster ovens from Hamilton Beach and Black + Decker than this Ninja. And those toaster ovens have one certain advantage over this Ninja: they offer more space so that we can even bake frozen or homemade pizzas.
On the other hand, if the purpose of looking for the best horizontal toaster is not to come across a convection toaster oven because you already have a totally amazing home oven, then the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster might sound like the perfect fit. As long as the price doesn’t bother you.
Features
When it’s up, in a vertical position, the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster looks like a classic toaster with a long slot.
Those pop up toasters with long slots are nice if we bake our own sourdough boule and we want to leave the long slices uncut when we pop them in a toaster.
The 70% wider slot compared with classic pop-up toasters fits long artisan breads or bakery-style bagels.
There are 7 shade settings, which is typical of most toasters.
However, the thing that makes this Ninja different is the fact that it can be also used horizontally.
From a toaster it can turn into a compact toaster oven in one small footprint. I guess, it can also be a nice fit for a RV as a toaster that can be also used as a very compact oven.
Ninja also mentions that it’s capable of delivering the perfect toast. It promises more even toasting than a traditional toaster.
It’s also a 1,500 watts appliance so it’s certainly powerful.
The oven part, when we use it horizontally, can go up to 400 degrees F, which is a nice temperature.
No preheat is required and that’s awesome.
Given the small chamber and the high power, the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster can cook 35% faster than a full-size electric oven.
It’s great if you want to prepare a quick breakfast or a quick dinner when you don’t feel like cooking anything and you just want to go to bed. A small size can be advantageous sometimes because it means cooking food faster. That also applies to basket air fryers, that’s why they’re faster.
Size
It’s a compact oven in horizontal mode but a quite generous toaster.

If you have a budget around $400 and you desire to look for the best horizontal toaster that can do anything we want, then this Breville might be what you want for your household.
It’s an impressive appliance with a long list of functions. Of course, the price can be way too much for some and I totally get that.

The Breville BOV900BSS Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is no small oven.
Its dimensions are 21.5 x 17.5 x 12.7 inches.
It’s also a 1,800 watts appliance that can cook pretty much anything we want and has the space for it.

Now, it’s time to review a classic countertop toaster oven as the best horizontal toaster.
And that’s the Hamilton Beach 6-Slice Countertop Toaster Oven. It’s classic, extremely easy to use, doesn’t take up that much counter space but it still has a pretty nicely sized baking chamber.
And it’s quite affordable. The price under $100 is unbeatable.
It also doesn’t hurt that I generally like Hamilton Beach quite a lot. I featured some of their products in a variety of articles, including when I reviewed the best juicer for beets or the best juicer for tomatoes or the best waffle makers with removable plates. These are just some examples.
Generally their products are affordable, good value for money but they will also receive a fair number of negative reviews. I recommend checking some of those out, too.
