6 Best Flax Seed Grinders Reviews

We can either buy ground flax seeds (flaxseed meal) or we can do it the proper way and look for the best flax seed grinders and freshly ground flax seeds for whatever we want to do with them.

It’s just like most of us prefer freshly ground black pepper. Overall, I don’t buy grinders just for flax seeds. I buy them for all of my spices.

I do my own spice mixes, whether I do my BBQ spice rub or my Indian spice mixes. When you cook a lot and you cook for a lot of people, you need to make your own spice mixes. And it’s a very easy thing to do if you have a very good spice grinder.

And I also love grinding coffee beans. I’m old school, although many of the people I know prefer using pod coffee makers in the morning because they’re just so fast and the taste is decent. But I’m also trying to convince everyone I know to also add a smoothie or a fruit juice to their breakfast of pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, cereals, a simple yogurt, eggs and bacon or whatever else you prefer eating in the morning.

However, to get back to our search for the best flax seed grinders, I would ask if we really need to grind the seeds from the flax plant?

According to this article, we should consume the ground form over whole flaxseed simply because it’s easier to digest and we’ll get all those benefits that these tiny seeds are so famous for.

Also, it seems that ancient Egyptians used flaxseed as both food and medicine. So it’s certainly an ancient plant that was recognized for its properties thousands of years ago.

Best Flax Seed Grinders Reviews

We actually have two categories to choose from:

  • classic grinders that are only used to grind spices, seeds, etc.
  • and blenders that are used for making smoothies, creamy soups, sauces, cocktails, tomato juice, pureed food but that can also be used to grind spices, seeds, mill flour, etc.

In the category of classic grinders, we have the Mueller HyperGrind Precision Electric Spice/Coffee Grinder Mill as my top pick for the best flax seed grinders. It’s certainly not perfect but it’s quite cheap, really popular, and pretty highly rated.

Another choice is the Cosori Electric Coffee Grinder. I like some air fryers from Cosori but their grinder is not my top pick because it’s about 2 times more expensive than the one from Mueller, while offering nothing to justify the expensive price.

The Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind Electric Coffee Grinder is another top pick.

In the blender camp, we have the cheap nutribullet Personal Blender 600 that is fantastic and one of my favorite picks. And we’ve also got the Breville Super Q Blender that is incredibly expensive and one of the most powerful at the moment.

By the way, I also wanted to mention that flaxseed meal (milled or ground flaxseed) mixed with water is a very popular egg substitute in a variety of dishes, like cornbread or brownies or muffins.

This mix is called flax egg. 1 egg is substituted with 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal + 3 tablespoons of water.

It’s a good thing to know if you’re going to buy one of the best flax seed grinders. You can make your own flaxseed meal and then substitute eggs if you want to go vegan. Applesauce is another option.

1. Mueller HyperGrind Precision Electric Spice/Coffee Grinder Mill: Overall the Best Flax Seed Grinder

I will admit that one important reason for considering the Mueller HyperGrind Precision Electric Spice/Coffee Grinder Mill as my top recommendation is the rather cheap price.

Many electric spice/coffee grinders mills will cost around $40 but this one from Mueller is half the price.

It’s no wonder that this Mueller model is among the most popular spice/coffee grinders we will come across.

Moreover, even if it comes with a substantial number of negative reviews, the percentage of positive reviews is very high, I would say among the highest among grain mills and spice grinders.

People who use it to grind flax seeds mention that it’s a powerful little grinder. It doesn’t take long for flaxseeds to turn into powder. It’s also quieter and does a quicker, better job than old grinders.

We can also ground our seeds from coarse to fine, it depends what texture you prefer.

Features

It promises consistent grinds every time.

The Mueller HyperGrind gives us top consistency and precision control over the coarseness of our coffee beans, spices, herbs, and seeds every time.

It is also designed and tested through three professional grade inspections to outlast and outperform the competition.

Moreover, it features long lasting blades.

They’re made from strong and durable stainless steel.

We can grind any type of coffee we like, from coarse to fine quickly and efficiently with minimum grinding noise.

The capacity for the Mueller HyperGrind is not the biggest but it’s big enough.

We can process up to 11 tablespoons (2.1 oz) of coffee beans at one time. That gives us enough space for grinding a good quantity of flax seeds that we can then use in whatever recipe we want.

It’s also very quick.

It can do a coarse grind in 8-10 sec, a medium grind in 10-15 sec, and a fine grind in 20 sec. So, it will take only a few seconds to obtain finely ground flaxseed meal or spice mixes. I love that.

Or course, like all grinders, the Mueller HyperGrind is very easy to use. We use touch-sensitive technology to start and stop the appliance.

The stainless steel bowl and blade are very easy to clean, too.

2. nutribullet Personal Blender 600: Best Value for Money

If you think that classic grinders are not exactly what you want, then I want to recommend to you a pretty unusual option as one of the best flax seed grinders.

I’m talking about using a blender to grind spices, chia/flax seeds, make your own flours from a range of grains, etc.

Indeed, the nutribullet Personal Blender 600 can absolutely be used to grind spices and the results are amazing.

It’s impressive and I just love the possibility of making smoothies in the same appliance that can be used for grinding spices and grains.

I’ll also talk about a very cheap accessory that we can buy for this nutribullet if we’re serious about using it as a grinder for our spices or coffee or for making our own flour from a variety of grains. It’s a milling blade that will cost around $15.

Even if we add the milling blade to our shopping list, the total price for this nutribullet and the blade will still be well under $100. That’s one cheap package that can help us do so much in the kitchen, from making whatever drinks we want with flax seeds to making flaxseed meal, to making flour, spice mixes, pureeing food, making batters (pancakes, crepes, etc.) and chutneys, etc.

People are using the nutribullet Personal Blender to make smoothies with flax seeds and other fruits and ingredients. They mention that they don’t even notice the seeds. The blades are grounding them as they finely chop the rest of the ingredients until we obtain a very smooth drink.

There are also people who use it to make flaxseed meal or to grind chia seeds, make their own spice mix, ground coffee beans, and even make some flour.

Components

The nutribullet Personal Blender 600 comes with:

  • 600W motor base
  • extractor blade
  • 24 oz cup
  • to-go lid
  • lip ring
  • recipe book

It’s very easy to use. We just have to push, twist, and blend.

It’s also very powerful, although you might not think so given the 600 watts motor. It’s so powerful that I recommended it as one of the best blenders for carrot juice.

You can check out this YouTube video if you want to see how it performs.

Features

Since it’s a personal blender, there are a few things we can expect.

One of those is that the cup can also be used as a to-go cup. And we can buy more cups for this nutribullet if we want to make smoothies for more people to take with them as they leave the house.

Another thing we can expect is a smaller cup size. Countertop blenders are 2,3 times bigger in size but they’re also a lot more expensive.

So, personal blenders are some of the cheapest we can buy.

And with the nutribullet Personal Blender we don’t lose in power because the 600 watts motor base is very powerful considering the size of this appliance.

All in all, if we’re looking for an affordable appliance that is incredibly versatile, the nutribullet Personal Blender 600 can be one of the best flax seed grinders and so much more.

3. nutribullet Milling Blade

As I’ve mentioned, if you decide to choose the nutribullet Personal Blender as the perfect option for your household, then I also recommend buying the optional milling blade from this manufacturer if you want to grind spices, seeds, coffee beans or to make your own flour.

It is a flat blade made for grinding and chopping.

The nutribullet Milling Blade is great at finely grinding nuts, seeds, grains, and even coffee beans.

With proper pulsing technique, we can also use it as a chopping blade.

The nutribullet Milling Blade is a great addition to the nutribullet Personal Blender 600 and, since it’s so cheap, it would be a pity not to consider it.

4. Cosori Electric Coffee Grinder

While I can say that I like what the Cosori Electric Coffee Grinder offers, I also think that it’s much too expensive.

I much prefer the Mueller HyperGrind Precision Electric Spice/Coffee Grinder Mill as my top recommendation since it’s two times cheaper than this Cosori. And it’s also very popular and more highly rated.

But some people might not like the one from Mueller. This Cosori can certainly serve as an alternative for the best flax seed grinders, as long as the price is good for you.

There are not a lot of user reviews that mention that they’re using it for making flaxseed meal but those few who mention grinding flax seeds are very satisfied with the performance offered by the Cosori Electric Coffee Grinder.

Someone uses it to make coffee, grind nuts, flax seeds, cinnamon, and vinaigrette.

Another buyer uses it to grind chia and flax seeds, sometimes adding nuts, which can make a sticky mess. Well, nuts have oils so they’re going to become sticky quickly. The Cosori grinds these ingredients to a fine powder or less fine if that’s what we want.

All in all, the Cosori Electric Coffee Grinder is highly capable of handling any ingredients we want and it will grind them as coarse or fine as we want. That’s great.

Features

Thanks to the 200 watts rated power and the sharp stainless steel blades we can get fine coffee grounds in 15 seconds or less. It’s fast.

It grinds coarse in 8-10 sec, medium in 10-12 sec, and fine in 12-15 sec.

What I absolutely love about this Cosori is the two sets of blades we get.

One set of blades is used to grind coffee and spices. It’s a single blade. We can use this one for flax seeds.

The other, called the double blade, is used for nuts and vegetables.

Cosori describes it as being designed to be efficient and long-lasting thanks to the copper-wired motor and stainless steel blades.

The grinding chamber and blades are dishwasher safe.

I also like the 2 year warranty.

5. Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind Electric Coffee Grinder

Another pretty affordable, highly popular, highly rated, and very capable model is the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind Electric Coffee Grinder.

This manufacturer also makes one of the best juicers for grapes and other fruits and veggies. And a very good steamer. Generally, I quite like Hamilton Beach.

A buyer mentions that they were successful to grind up flax seeds and also homemade bread crumbs. It’s an adequate grinder that can be used for a variety of ingredients.

Apparently, it’s also quite noisy when in operation.

Another buyer purchased the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind Electric Coffee Grinder to specifically grind up many types of whole spices, as well as many types of seeds (hemp, chia, sesame, sunflower, and flax seeds).

The respective buyer mentions that this Hamilton Beach is quite effective, it takes about 12-15 sec to grind into powder whole spices. And it works extremely well for seeds. It seems that it’s quieter than either a blender or a food processor. Of course, it’s easy to use and easy to clean.

The con would be that we can only process 3 tablespoons of spices or seeds at a time. But it moves quickly so you’ll still be done quickly even if you have to process large quantities.

The motor might start to heat up after about a dozen bouts of 20 second sessions.

Features

The capacity is pretty good. We can grind enough to brew up to 12 cups of coffee.

As it’s expected, it comes with durable stainless steel blades.

Of course, besides coffee beans, it’s also great for herbs, spices, and seeds.

The removable stainless steel grinding bowl is also dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.

6. Breville Super Q Blender

Since I took the route to introduce a cheap blender, I also thought that it would be great if I also recommended one of the most expensive appliances that we could recommend as the best flax seed grinder.

I am totally aware that most people don’t think of blenders when they imagine grinding seeds, spices, grains, coffee beans, etc. but maybe it would be an interesting thing for some people to discover and take advantage of.

One of the reasons for reviewing the Breville Super Q Blender is that their recipe book actually contains something that includes our subject matter so that’s exciting.

In the chapter called Magical Milling, we get a recipe for Flaxseed, Sunflower & Almond Meal (FSA Meal).

The recipe is made with flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, and raw almonds.

We Mill for 15-20 seconds or until finely ground into a meal. Thus, the Breville Super Q Blender has a Mill function, which clearly illustrates its capabilities.

The tip for this FSA meal is that we can add FSA meal to smoothies, yogurt or breakfast cereals, or to muffin, cake or cookie mixtures.

And the next recipe is Chewy Oat, Pumpkin Seed & FSA Cookies that use the FSA meal that we freshly ground in this wonderful blender.

Components

The Breville Super Q Blender comes with:

  • 1800 Watt motor – it’s one of the most powerful blenders at the moment, only commercial blenders are more powerful
  • 186mph blade tip speed under load for quick results
  • 68 oz jug – it’s pretty big
  • 24 oz cup – a personal blender attachment that allows to take our drinks on the go or to blend smaller amount into a smaller container
  • recipe book
  • temper
  • spatula

Features

There are 5 one touch programs: green smoothie, smoothie, soup, pulse|ice crush, frozen desserts.

And we have 12 speed settings. These 12 speed settings are the ones we’ll be using the most because these are the ones that will help us create nut butters, nut & bean milks, fresh cocktails, fine milled flour, creamy dips, rich sauces, zesty dressings, and freshly ground spices.

It also comes with noise suppression technology. Super Q stands for Super Quick, Super Quiet, Super Blender.
